چکیده

Imaging neuroscience links human behavior to aspects of brain biology in everincreasing datasets. Existing neuroimaging methods typically perform either discovery of unknown neural structure or testing of neural structure associated with mental tasks. However, testing hypotheses on the neural correlates underlying larger sets of mental tasks necessitates adequate representations for the observations. We therefore propose to blend representation modelling and task classification into a unified statistical learning problem. A multinomial logistic regression is introduced that is constrained by factored coefficients and coupled with an autoencoder. We show that this approach yields more accurate and interpretable neural models of psychological tasks in a reference dataset, as well as better generalization to other datasets. keywords: Brain Imaging, Cognitive Science, Semi-Supervised Learning, Systems Biology

Prediction-Constrained Training for Semi-Supervised Mixture and Topic Models

Supervisory signals have the potential to make low-dimensional data representations, like those learned by mixture and topic models, more interpretable and useful. We propose a framework for training latent variable models that explicitly balances two goals: recovery of faithful generative explanations of high-dimensional data, and accurate prediction of associated semantic labels. Existing app...

Machine learning framework for early MRI-based Alzheimer's conversion prediction in MCI subjects

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a transitional stage between age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease (AD). For the effective treatment of AD, it would be important to identify MCI patients at high risk for conversion to AD. In this study, we present a novel magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based method for predicting the MCI-to-AD conversion from one to three years before the c...

Semi-Supervised Prediction-Constrained Topic Models

Supervisory signals can help topic models discover low-dimensional data representations which are useful for a specific prediction task. We propose a framework for training supervised latent Dirichlet allocation that balances two goals: faithful generative explanations of high-dimensional data and accurate prediction of associated class labels. Existing approaches fail to balance these goals by...

Ensemble learning with trees and rules: Supervised, semi-supervised, unsupervised

In this article, we propose several new approaches for post processing a large ensemble of conjunctive rules for supervised, semi-supervised and unsupervised learning problems. We show with various examples that for high dimensional regression problems the models constructed by post processing the rules with partial least squares regression have significantly better prediction performance than ...

Semi Supervised Logistic Regression

Semi-supervised learning has recently emerged as a new paradigm in the machine learning community. It aims at exploiting simultaneously labeled and unlabeled data for classification. We introduce here a new semi-supervised algorithm. Its originality is that it relies on a discriminative approach to semisupervised learning rather than a generative approach, as it is usually the case. We present ...
